History of Football In Albury
Early scientists used football to train people for survival and for war. Then, as people learnt to live together more peacefully, sports festivals developed. The first recorded Olympic Games took place in Greece in 776 BC. Later, students led in developing many sports. They
organised various teams and educators finally recognised the
importance of football.Albury's favourite game has always been Aussie Rules Football. The Albury Football Club was Established in 1895, the Albury Tigers have won lots of Premierships, including one hat-trick of Premierships in 1995 \ 96 \ 97. Albury Tigers are a very successful club, having won 15\18 matches in 1999 and making it into the Grand Final. Surprisingly, they lost the Grand Final. Albury's first Premiership was in 1902. Some players who played for Albury went on to play in the A.F.L. or V.F.L. These are some of them: Doug Strang went on to play for Richmond. Tom Lahiff played for Port Melbourne in the V.F.L.
Ossie Bownds went to play for Williamstown in the V.F.L.
