Albury's First White Settler!

Robert Brown who arrived in 1836 was the first white man to settle in Albury. Robert Brown also built the first dwelling ( a slab hut) in Albury in 1839. It was near 'Hovell Tree' which was the tree marked by the explorers Hume & Hovell when they passed through this area in 1824. Robert Brown made extensions to his slab hut in 1839 making it Albury's first inn. The wife of Robert Brown was Elizabeth Tayler who was born in 1835, 16 years younger than him. She died in 1915. Robert Brown died in 1887.
